Day 1     SDK Airport or Hotel – City Tour - SDK Yacht Club Jetty -  Abai, Kinabatangan River. Overnight.  (L,D)

You will be picked up from your hotel or the airport and proceed for a city tour and explore the various landmarks of Sandakan such as St Michael Church, Sandakan Heritage Museum, Central Market where is the most amazing variety of fresh seafood and agricultural products, Sim-Sim Water Village, where houses are all built close to the water surface offering a  fascinating view of the sea, a visit to Puh Jih Syh Buddhist Temple which is situated on the hilltop of Tanah Merah and offers a panoramic view of Sandakan Bay and Agnes Keith House where the books Land Below the Wind and White Man Returns were written in the house. Today the house is a heritage museum providing an interesting insight into life during the British colonial period in North Borneo.

After the tour, transfer to Sandakan Yacht Club Jetty for the boat ride to the lodge in Abai, on the Kinabatangan River. The 1.5 hour boat ride will take you across Sandakan Bay passing the historical Berhala Island and fishing villages.

On arrival at the lodge, you will be greeted by your guide and proceed check in to your room. Lunch is served at their restaurant. You then have leisure time to stroll through Abai or relax by the river before embarking by boat up Sabah's longest river at 1630hrs. Our guides, and the boat captain, will help you spot wildlife and birds in their Secondary Rainforest habitat. The Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary is one the best places in Southeast Asia to observe wildlife from the boat. We will search for the famous endemic Proboscis Monkeys as they settle down on treetops. If we are lucky we will see Wild Orang Utans and a herd of Borneo pygmy Elephants. This is a favourite habitat of birds including raptors, horn bills, king fisher and others.  Long Tail and Short Tail Macaques roam the banks which are the home of the Kinabatangan crocodile. As evening falls we will observe fireflies shimmering above the water and along the banks as we cruise back to resort for dinner.

After dinner, you can take an amazing hour long stroll along a boardwalk and using your headlamps or torch and look for nocturnal wildlife (depends on weather conditions). On our return to the lodge you can relax before going to bed. Overnight.

Day 2     Oxbow Lake – SDK Yacht Club -  Sun Bear - Sepilok Orangutan - SDK Airport or Hotel (B,L)

We begin the day with a Morning Cruise to observe more wildlife and birds.  When we return to lodge breakfast will be waiting and we then proceed to check out for the 1.5 hr boat ride back to the Sandakan Yacht Club Jetty.

On arriving at the jetty and you will transfer to visiting Sabah’s first Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC) which is next to the Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre. The Conservation Centre was founded by Mr. Wong Siew Te, a biologist studying and working with Bornean Sun Bears. BSBCC was established in 2008 through collaboration with the Sabah Wildlife Department, Sabah Forestry Department and Land Empowerment Animals People (LEAP). It is a non-government organization and was setup to prevent the endangered bear from becoming extinct. All rescued sun bears are free to roam within the forest enclosure. You have opportunity to get a close view of the world’s smallest bear from the observation platform.

After lunch, we continue visiting Sepilok Orang-Utan Rehabilitation Centre where orphaned and injured Orang-Utans are brought to be rehabilitated and learn to fend for themselves back in the wild. Sepilok is a primary lowland forest; a fine showcase of Borneo’s remaining rainforest. The highlight is witnessing the feeding of Orang-Utans from a platform in the center of their forest enclosure. A scheduled documentary video about 25 minutes is a great overview of the Orang-Utan.

After the tour, transfer you to Sandakan airport or your respective hotel in Sandakan. Tour finished about 1700hrs. End of services.
